‘The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds’ by Paul Zindel follows a struggling single mother and her two very different teenage daughters as they navigate poverty, neglect, family conflict, and the pressures of adolescence.

‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’ by Mark Haddon, adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens, follows Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old boy who sets out to investigate the mysterious death of his neighbor’s dog.

The Capital City Marching Festival returns to the Toney Burger Center on September 26, 2026, and LASA Raptor Band needs volunteers to help make this exciting event a success! More than 5,000 students, directors, and supporters from across Central Texas will gather for this annual celebration of high school marching bands. CapCity is a volunteer-driven event, and there are opportunities for adults, students, and families to help throughout the day.

We’re hosting it at LASA on Monday, Sept. 21 with a half day (8-12pm) & full day (8-4pm) option. Student & parent volunteers: we need you Saturday, May 23rd from 12:45p to 3:45pm (this is a correction from last Sunday’s principal message). We’ll set up for and clean up after a Johnston High School ex-students Memorial Day gathering. It’s a lovely way to give back to the community and honor students who went to classes in the school building we now call home, and later died as a result of their service to the United States. (AND for students to earn sponsored volunteer hours.)
