Committees

There are volunteer opportunities available year round on a variety of committees.  Here is an overview.  You can sign up for your specific volunteer interests here.

August

  • Welcome Teacher Bus Tour: provide teacher meals and organize parent volunteers to answer questions; occurs on one day before school starts
  • Back to School Teacher Luncheon: provide lunch for teachers; occurs on one day before school starts

September/October/November

  • No Hassle Fundraiser & Project Graduation Auction: plan, market, implement fundraising campaigns; occurs over a period of several weeks
  • Back to School Night: provide dinner for teachers; happens on one evening
  • Bring Your Parent to School Days: assist in organizing; occurs during two school days
  • Mentoring: assist 8th graders at middle schools with applying to LASA; occurs during school days over a period of weeks
  • Roadshow Events: help organize and run recruiting presentations at middle schools; occurs on several evenings over several weeks
  • Giving Thanks Pie Event: provide pies and cards for teachers and staff; occurs on the day before Thanksgiving Break during the school day
  • Showcase: provide dinner for teachers; happens on one evening

January/February/March

  • New Parent Coffee: provide refreshments and organize parent volunteers to answer questions; occurs on a Saturday
  • Choice Sheet Day: provide refreshments; occurs in the evening or on a weekend

April/May/June/July

  • AP Breakfasts/Snacks: provide student breakfast/snacks; occurs daily for 2 weeks
  • Coffeehouse: help run the event, sell tickets, provide refreshments; occurs on one evening
  • Teacher & Staff Appreciation Lunch: provide lunch for all faculty and staff; occurs midday on one school day
  • Senior Salute: help plan and run the event; occurs the evening before graduation
  • Project Graduation: organize and run the event; occurs overnight on the day of graduation
  • Financial Reconciliation: review PFLASA’s financial records; occurs in July

Ongoing Throughout the Year

  • Latino & African American Outreach: plan and run events; occur as planned by committee(s) 
  • LASA Alumni Group: plan and run events; occur as planned by committee 
  • Teacher & Staff Appreciations and Birthday Recognition: provide meals and gifts as planned by committee and per the official appreciation calendar; occurs on many days throughout the year
  • Raptor Report (formerly Lots of LASA or LOL) Newsletter: edit and publish weekly e-newsletter and special editions (as needed)
  • LASA Directory: update the directory; occurs throughout the year but heaviest in fall
  • Zip Code Groups: add families to Zip Code-based email groups and introduce families; occurs throughout the year but heaviest in fall
  • Technology: provide support for PFLASA website and email accounts; occurs throughout the year
  • Tutoring: facilitate tutoring program for LASA students in selected subjects; occurs throughout the year
  • Senior, Junior, Sophomore & Freshman Parent Representatives: plan and implement activities that vary by class; occurs throughout the year
  • Board Member: perform duties for PFLASA as an organization throughout the year
