WHAT’S MY JOB HERE?: UNDERSTANDING YOUR ROLE AS A PARENT IN THE COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS

Tuesday, March 3, 2026
6–7pm

As an essay coach and college consultant, I watch parents struggle mightily every year to figure out what their role in the college application process should be. What’s doing too much? What’s doing too little? What if your student wants you to butt out? What if no matter how many times you yell, plead, and try to inspire, your student isn’t engaging in the process? How much responsibility do you entrust to your student? These are all questions most of the parents I work with don’t know the answer to. This class is about having a very frank discussion through vignettes, concrete examples, and longterm experience about making sure you aren’t going into the college app process with the wrong assumptions about your part in the process. Bring your questions!

Raptor Library Book Fair

The Raptor Library will be hosting a Book Fair again this year, but it will look a little different due to BookPeople getting out of the book fair game last year (SB13 ramifications). So we’re going to host a crowd-sourced book fair! All paperbacks will be $1 and all hardbacks will be $2. I have quite a few books already but I would love any and all donations! The money made from our book fairs is used to purchase new books for our small, but mighty library. Books can be delivered to the front office or the library any day we’re in school.

If you’d like to volunteer at the event, you can check out the SignUp Genius. Thank you!

Raising Healthy Raptors Presents – “Parenting Through Imperfection: The Good Enough Parent”

When: Tues, Feb 24th, 7pm, Virtual (RSVP for link)

Let’s face it, the reality is that parents are imperfect humans dealing with our own issues while also navigating our parental responsibilities. We are given the message to put our oxygen mask on first, while constantly fielding both internal and external expectations to sacrifice for our children.

Raising Healthy Raptors is proud to host Valerie Milburn, co-host of the award winning podcast Mental Health: Hope and Recovery and former LBJ teacher, to share her personal journey though imperfect parenting. Please join us for this virtual presentation followed by a Q&A/discussion session by sending an RSVP to wellness@pflasa.com for the link and/or be on lookout in Sunday’s Principal’s message and on the PFLASA FB page.
