In this class, you’ll learn the basics of brush lettering or calligraphy. We’ll go over faux calligraphy that can be done with just about any writing utensil and true brush lettering that can be done with any brush pen of even a regular marker.
Supplies
There are so many different brush pens and calligraphy markers, it can be hard to know what you actually need, and what you should start out with. The truth is, you can start out with just about anything. If you’ve got a piece of paper and a pen, you can letter. But, if you’re looking to take your lettering to the next level and experiment with some fun new tools, I’ve linked some of my favorites below.
- Paper
- Rhodia paper pad size A4; Square (almost looks like graph paper); This is a high quality paper pad that will minimize fraying of your brush pens. The squares make it easy to learn how to size the letters.
- Pens/Markers
- For beginners, I think small brush pens are easier to learn with. These are my favorites: Tombow Fudenosuke pens
- If you are more advanced or what to try bigger lettering, try these: Tombow dual brush pens
